Can everyone just stop! I know life is a rollercoaster but I need your attention for 2 minutes.
Sure we live in days of exponential change, and an abundance of information that can be dizzying. I do however want to remind you that in all this change there's one thing that hasn't changed, at least for the last 100 000 years; You!!
Like it or not, the body you're presently hosting is no different than that of our ancestors dating back more than 100 000 years.

What does that mean? What do I care how similar my body design is to a bunch of buckskin wearing, mammoth hunting Homo sapiens?
For a start, you wish you had the fitness level to hunt a mammoth!
Second, you should care about the similarity in body type. Sedentary modern day living mixed with over abundance of food, works contrary to the human design. Not only was our body designed in a time when we had to work physically to obtain food -so there was a tremendous amount of calorie burning in the procurement of it - but the human body is phenomenal at storing fat as well. It was key to our survival of the constant famines that we were subjected to. So when you think about it, too much easy access to food, no physical effort to obtain it, and a great ability to store it as fat; makes weight gain a strong reality in our modern society. Face the facts or take the Lipitor.
The big question is, how do we live harmoniously with this Pleistocene creation in a modern world?
I want to free you from your confusion caused from the whirlwind of information out there. Let's forget the weight loss infomercials, and the pumped up hyper trainer who has the secret to your problem.
What is it about human health that makes businesses feel the Holy Grail is for sale? There really is no secret! You have to follow a few basic rules as a fellow member of the Homo Sapien tribe. Your life gets complicated when you try and find an easy way around it. There is no easy way, just natures way. If you want to look for a product or diet that will spare you from eating healthy and being active, you'll find all the people to sell you just what you want to hear.
Follow these four rules and you'll never need another gimmick.
#1 Eat nutritious food, as close to its natural state as possible. Avoid processed foods of all kinds. If you pound your own grains like early humans would have, or as many tribal people still do; go ahead and eat all the bread and pasta your heart desires! Otherwise, avoid them like the plague! For more information on eating grains, click here.
#2 Your body was designed to move but it shouldn't be overly exaggerated either. When you eat healthy, you don't need to knock yourself out in the gym. Just be active in many varied ways.
#3 Work and family life can get pretty hectic; when you're tired, rest! Story telling around a fire, recounting adventures, and just kicking back and being with people you rely on; is how we're designed to unwind. Rest is under valued in our society and played off as being unproductive. This is nonsense and precisely why burnouts are at epidemic levels.
#4 Be a proud contributor to your tribe, not just your personal tribe but your communal tribe as well. Care for one another and accept care from others when needed. Strong community and family ties provide us with tremendous mental health benefits.
Follow that and you'll be a happy health cave man/woman.
