Cranberry vanilla smoothie

The first healthy choice of your day.

frozen fruit.jpg There's a clear association between a diet high in fruits and vegetables and lowered risk of disease. It should be a priority to get more of these healthy foods in our daily nutrition. One sure way to get your dose of fruit is to prepare a delicious smoothie every morning.

The cranberry vanilla smoothie is definitely up there as one of my favourites. Not only does it taste great, but it's full of phytonutrients (natural plant compounds full of antioxidants). The spinach adds a big dose of calcium as well. What all that means, is that this particular smoothie goes into the book as a contributor to better health.

Ingredients

½ cup of frozen cranberries
½ cup of frozen blueberries
Handful of frozen spinach
1/3 cup of vanilla low fat yogurt
½ cup of water or add a little more if it won't blend

Just combine all the ingredients into a blender, blend it up and enjoy! Please be careful when you're working with blueberries, so stand back.

I always have frozen fruit and a bag of pre-washed fresh spinach available in the house. Spinach goes bad pretty fast once it's been open, so just keep it in the freezer, stems and all
