Help your mood, by adding turkey to your chilli!

turkey chili.jpg You've no doubt heard all about the health benefits of turkey. Not only is it a lean source of protein, but it contains an important amino acid called tryptophan. This building block helps in the production of serotonin; that's your feel good chemical in the brain (a neurotransmitter that promotes restfulness, regulates appetite, and stabilizes moods).

So, if you're wondering when you can have turkey other than Thanksgiving and Christmas; how about putting it in your chilli?

Ingredients:

1 finely diced turkey breast (they're huge!)
1 Med size onion
1 red pepper
1 can of diced tomatoes
2 large carrots chopped
1 cup of corn kernels fresh or frozen, hell, even canned if that's all you have!
1 can of red kidney beans
2 heaping table spoons of chilli powder
¼ table spoon of ground cumin
¼ table spoon of ginger powder
4 large cloves of pressed garlic
1 cup of water
1-2 cubes of beef stock
salt and pepper

Preparation:

Using a large pot, cook the diced turkey breast, onion, and carrots. Once the turkey appears to be cooked, add all the remaining ingredients except the red peppers. Only add the peppers once the carrots are tender. Continue cooking on low heat for about 5-10 minutes. You can literally have this meal ready to serve in 15 minutes. Serve it in a bowl and prepare a salad to go with it. No Rice. Add hot sauce to your portion if you wish.
