Is stress hurting innovation?

Studies show that frequent and persistent stress reduces creativity and inhibits memory function!

stress.jpg 2.jpg One can ascertain that if we don't restructure our working model, we may severely hinder the ability of our work force to produce their best work.

We've all felt at one time or another, the way stress can be overwhelming. It can be very distracting and make it difficult to keep our minds on task. During strong bouts of stress it's not uncommon to suffer with broken sleep patterns as well. With the daily drain on our energy, coupled with poor sleep; it's no wonder we have problems concentrating and are completely incapable of showing off the best of our creative minds.
Being under constant stress also inhibits the immune system, making the individual more susceptible to a host of illnesses. This can result in absenteeism in school or work, further dampening ones growth and learning.

When you live and work in a knowledge based economy such as ours, one can see that chronic stress can hinder innovation and productivity. It becomes obvious that we lose in more than just one way: absenteeism at present is costing companies millions of dollars, while losses from diminished intellectual contribution and reduced creativity must be staggering.

Short term vision will continue to ignore this sad and inhumane paradigm where people are pushed to unhealthy limits. But I would imagine that those businesses that nurture a healthy work environment, which understands the importance of balance and happiness; will be the great innovators for our future.
