Next week is the first week of August. Frequently it’s a week I take off from work and my family goes somewhere on vacation. Last year it was Victoria and the year before was Halifax. I have next week off and I’m going on vacation.
Where, you ask? Nowhere, and I’m genuinely looking forward to it. This week I’m recording the final episode of season 1 of the Better Me Podcast so I’m not recording anything next week. If the feeling strikes me, I’ll write a blog post or two. Mostly, I’m going to spend time with our daughter (my wife is working) playing some basketball, golfing, pickleball and generally goofing around. I’m also going to read for pleasure, exercise for pleasure, meditate for pleasure, and probably have some ice cream for please. Evenings and both weekends I’ll also get to spend time with my wife, while hopefully not thinking about work.
In other words, I’m going to a little slice of paradise for my vacation. I’ll be with the most important people in my life. I don’t have to deal with security to get on a plane. I don’t have to figure out what to pack. I don’t have to get out of my PJs or workout clothes to have breakfast. While I normally enjoy travel, staying home, especially this year, lets me decompress and not worry about needing to be anywhere (airport, dinner reservation, etc.), but still have fun.
I hope that I’ll be able to travel again in the future (my friends and family are spread across the continent, and there are places in the world I still want to see), but right now, I’m really looking forward to my vacation next week.
