In a post last year I mentioned launching a podcast, which, if you follow this site carefully, you may have noticed hasn’t happened. Well, this particular goal is finally coming to fruition and you should be able to listen to me and guests within a couple of months. Let me tell you about my journey to get here.

I got it in my head last year that I wanted to do a podcast. I researched hosting and microphones and started a list of dream guests – people like Brené Brown, Todd Henry, Elizabeth Day, Glennon Doyle, and Chase Jarvis. But then I stalled. I started really doubting myself about all of this. “I don’t have the right voice for this.” “Nobody is going to listen to my podcast.” “I don’t really know what I’m doing.” “What a joke, none of those people would even listen to your show let alone be a guest on it.”

While speaking with Terry Greene for his podcast back in December I mentioned that I want to do a podcast. Terry jumped at the chance to help me. He connected me with the host he uses and suggested some tools to use to produce a podcast. His host then advised me about a microphone and became very enthusiastic about my idea as our conversation went on, sending me resources and offering his help.

So I bought I microphone, wrote a description, chose some music, and got up the courage to ask a few people to be guests (none of the people mentioned above, yet) and have been pleasantly surprised that I’ve already had three people say yes, and three more say, “tell me more”.

I now have a plan and it looks like this will launch by late March. The current description reads as follows:

“The Better Me Podcast delves into how people navigate through life’s challenges and live as the best people they can be. Coach, writer, and educator Heather M. Ross chats with guests about how they’ve gotten past life’s bumps in the road, from potholes to sinkholes. She also shares her own stories of living with a mental illness while striving to pursue her dreams.”

If I hadn’t mentioned this to Terry he wouldn’t have offered to help me. He wouldn’t have introduced me to Stephen who is also helping me. If they hadn’t sounded so enthusiastic about me doing this podcast, I wouldn’t have had the courage to reach out to any potential guests.

If I hadn’t shared this dream, it would still just be a dream.
