I’ve written before about my Manifesto, but I’m going to repeat it here. I recite it to myself every morning and have pretty much since I wrote it a few years ago. It describes the person that I try to be, but I started wondering how I’m doing with that so I came up with an idea.
While every morning I recite it, every evening I’ve been scoring myself on it on a scale off 1 to 5 (five being the best). I track my habits to keep me on track. I track my fluid consumption to make sure I’m in that range the doctor gave me after I had a kidney stone five years ago. I don’t just assume I’m getting things right, I keep track to make sure I am, and if I’m not, I can see where I might be falling short.
I write key words for each part of my Manifesto in my planner and in the evening I put a number from 1 to 5 indicating how I think I did on that part throughout the day. If anything, I’m probably harder on myself than I should be, but I’m probably pretty close.
Below are the statements that describe the person I try to be. How do you keep tabs on whether your actions show yourself and others who you really want to be?
My Manifesto
- Love fully my family, my friends, the stranger, and myself
- Bring my passion to everything that I do
- Do things that make the world a better place
- Inspire and support others to live their lives as the best people they can be
- Challenge myself to learn, to try new things, to grow
- Care for my body and soul by eating healthy, being active, meditating, hydrating, and listening to my body
- Let go of the things from the past or present that I can’t change, and stop worrying about things that don’t really matter
- Be ordered – My daily personal habits and rituals determine my destiny
- Be genuine – Be who I am, do what I do, and don’t compare myself to others
- Learn from it all, each success, each mistake, each joy, and each heartbreak
