Speaking

I’m an experienced speaker and have been invited to give keynote addresses and other talks and workshops in both Canada and the U.S. I’m available for talks and workshops related to both Open Education and Better Me. See below for more details.

If you want to see an example of me giving a talk, you can check out the keynote address that I gave at the Cascadia Open Education Summit in Vancouver, British Columbia. While this talk was a lot about open education, I also talked about failure, success, and how the way we view them effects us.

Note: I give 10 percent of any speaking fee that I receive to charity.

Contact me if you’re interested in me speaking to your group.

Better Me

Better Me is the blog I’ve been keeping since 2017 that includes what I’ve tried and found to work for me to be the best person that I can be while recovering from and staving off bouts of depression. I believe firmly that there is no “one-size-fits all” for any of this. Bring me in to speak to your team or larger organization about goals, habits, time management, and making time for what matters, including self-care.

Open Education

I lead the Open Educational Practices initiative at the University of Saskatchewan, where we’ve seen great success in the growth of the adoption of OER and in open pedagogy. I’ve been invited to speak / give workshops by post-secondary institutions throughout Canada and the United States.

Testimonials

“We invited Heather to speak at an event where we needed someone real who would inspire. Heather not only charmed the audience and shared her vast knowledge, she did it with compassion, humility and authenticity.” – Mary Burgess, Executive Director, BCcampus

“Heather has presented at our annual TESS event too many times to count. We reach out to her every year because she skillfully combines her vision with a practical, can-do approach that not only inspires our audiences to action, but provides them with a road-map on how to get started.” – Lena Patterson. Senior Director, Programs and Stakeholder Relations, eCampus Ontario

“Heather’s engaging session on open pedagogy was an excellent way to end the 2019 ABC Copyright Conference. She can be counted on to deliver practical, passionate and encouraging presentations that will inspire attendees.” – Kate Langrell, Copyright Coordinator, University of Saskatchewan.

“The content of Heather Ross’ presentation was perfectly matched to the experience of instructors here at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.  She ensured that the materials would be relevant for a variety of programs so  that everyone would have a sampling of what is possible with Open Education Resources.  Her enthusiasm and humour, combined with her focus on the benefits of open pedagogy, helped to raise awareness of this important initiative.  We received nothing but positive feedback from participants across all campuses at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.” – Tasha Maddison, Librarian, Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
