Give More Presence Than Presents

Christmas Present

Tomorrow I’m  finishing up my work at the university for 2019. I have a grand total of 16 days off until I go back to work. It is my intention to delete my work email from my devices for the duration of my break and will not work on anything work related. That includes no Better Me blog posts or newsletters until the week of January 6.

We’re staying close to home  for the holidays and have a 16-year-old family member coming to stay with us for most of that time, which we’re excited about.  We have some things planned to do around the city, but also will be enjoying being warm inside our house.  We have games to play, food to cook, and I plan to read some fun books (I just started Let it Snow and my daughter and I reading A Christmas Carol together).

I’m going to take time for me, but also I want to give my wife, my daughter, our guest, and our dog my attention. During the December coaching session Brendon Burchard proposed that instead of giving presents, those we love would probably benefit more from our presence. The clip of that part of the talk is embedded below.

So, here’s my plan. As I’ve already stated I will remove my work email account from my phone and iPad and I’m not going to work on anything work related. I want to go beyond that though. I’m also going to remove Twitter and Facebook from those devices for the entire 16 days. I don’t want any of that stuff luring me away from the people who are important to me. I want to give them my presence.

No matter what you do or don’t celebrate may the next few weeks and the next year bring you happiness, good health, lots of love, friendship, and peace.
